Benefits and Opportunities
The internship is a seasonal position that is unpaid. There is housing very close to the property available to employees at a substantially lower cost. However, international students get priority and rooms fill up pretty quickly. Unfortunately I was not able to take advantage of their housing because of this. There were multiple opportunities for networking throughout the summer. You can make connections with not only your supervisors and other employees of the hotel, but also guests of the hotel and business professionals attending conferences or meetings.

Achievements
Personal achievements of mine include gaining knowledge and skills that pertain to the event industry. These skills include time management, attention to detail and work ethic. Beyond those basic skills I was able to learn what it is like to work at a 5-star and 5-diamond hotel. You have to adapt to the prestigious environment and always watch what you say and how you say it. You are always opening doors for guests and greeting them wherever you go. This has taught me to be extremely polite and professional wherever I go. Another major accomplishment that I had was learning where everything was on property and being able to direct guests if they were lost. By attending multiple types of events, I was able to pick up tips and tricks from each manager based on the types of events and the different size of groups. There is a lot to learn from the staff at The Broadmoor and I'm thankful I was able to work with people in every department in order to learn as much as possible.
